Choosing the Right Synthetic Oil

Automobile owners always prefer to use top-quality synthetic brands like Royal Purple synthetic oil to keep their engine purring smoothly.Indeed, synthetic options can do wonders to the automobile engine – from improving fuel economy and performance to elongating engine life.

However, with the assorted synthetic oil brands crowding the store shelves, you cannot just pick anyone of them and expect it to do the job. In fact, there are certain factors apart from the quality and type of additives that influence the kind of synthetic oil that you should put in your engine.

Manufacturer recommendations – Always check your owner’s manual for the kind of synthetic engine oil that is compatible with your engine.

Age of the vehicle – The engine in older automobile models is designed to run on conventional oils. However, it is not like old vehicles are not compatible with synthetic oil options at all. In fact, shifting to a synthetic oil is still the best option to boost its failing performance as the older engines can benefit from enhanced protection features of synthetic variants. But you should always check with a professional to ensure that you switch to the right synthetic oil and do not end up causing any damage to the engine.

Condition of the engine – Constant wear and tear in old engines or ones that are used to natural oils may make the engine parts considerably smaller. There will be wide gaps due to the reduced size. This will make the engine hiccup constantly and also burn up more oil.

Again, shifting to a synthetic oil is the best gift for the engine. However, rather than simply shifting to any synthetic variant, it is better to go for a heavy weight synthetic option so that it can fill the gaps considerably. This will be especially useful in the summer.

Climatic conditions – The conditions in which the vehicle operates on a day to day basis also affects the choice of synthetic oil for the engine. For instance, a very cold climate will demand a specific grade of oil – a thin oil bearing a low viscosity will be best. However, the engine requirements in extremely hot conditions will be diametrically opposite. Similarly, very hilly or mountainous regions call for special oil formulations. In case the area experiences drastic fluctuations in temperature with the season, a multi weight oil will be the best bet as it is designed to meet two different grades. For instance, Royal Purple synthetic oil formulations can provide optimum viscosity over a range of temperatures by staying thick in summer and becoming thinner in winter.

Therefore, choosing the right synthetic oil is always important.
