Why You Should Look For The Film Strength of Oils?

My car mechanic always tells me to go for engine oils and transmission fluids that have a high film strength. I know that the lubricants are supposed to protect the engine and keep it clean. I am also aware that synthetic oils trump conventional ones on all performance levels. I even make it a point to check the viscosity grade and quality of the oil that goes into my automobiles.

However, terminology like film strength is still incomprehensible to me. So, when the mechanic suggested Royal Purple oils and transmission fluids as being oxidation stable and having high film strength, I was driven to understand the difference before making the switch.

After reading and discussing the subject with qualified advisors, I now understand that the excess heat and pressure in the engine is likely to break the oil down and make it squeeze out from between the moving parts of the engine. This will not only cause wear and tear but can even affect the performance and fuel economy. Therefore, the ability of the oil to stay unbroken even as it constantly lubricates the engine is known as its film strength. No wonder then that high film strength is always preferable for both engine protection and
performance!

And Royal Purple offers oils and synthetic transmission fluid that are enhanced by top quality additives that enable them to withstand extreme load, speed and temperature conditions.
