Are Engine Oils and Tranny Fluids One and the Same?

My old truck was long overdue for an oil change and I finally managed to haul it into the garage. Here the technician suggested that the tranny fluid also called for a change to improve the gear shifting. I was experiencing resistance in the gears meshing and moving. I asked the technician to top off the tranny with engine oil.

The tech was truly taken aback and I laughingly suggested that the two fluids were mostly interchangeable as all they did was lubricate the engine.  It took him some long moments to digest my ignorance.

Then he sat me down and told me that while motor oil works on the engine, transmission fluids lubricate the gears and other moving parts in the transmission to keep them moving smoothly!

He told me that the specifications vary greatly. Accordingly, they have different viscosities and even the additives vary a lot.

I am now aware that engine oils and transmission fluids serve specific functions in the vehicle. I asked the tech to recommend the best tranny fluid and he suggested I go for Royal Purple Synchromax transmission fluid.

We sourced the Royal Purple Synchromax transmission fluid from Lucky7trucks.com/ .I could sense the difference from the tranny fluid immediately. The gear noise is gone, the shifting is crisper and the improved power is palpable!
